FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Yes. Bay Dental is a registered CDCP provider. We are assignment-based, which means we handle the paperwork and bill the government, administered by Sun Life, directly on your behalf. You do not pay upfront for covered procedures. However, there will always be a portion to pay even if your coverage letter states that you are covered at 100% because the government’s National Fee Grid is lower than the British Columbia Dentists Fee Guide. Bay Dental will always tell you what to expect before work starts.

For full details on eligibility, what the plan covers, and how billing works, see our CDCP page.

Yes. Bay Dental direct bills all major dental insurance plans. Bring your insurance information to your appointment and the front desk takes care of the claim. If you are not sure whether your plan supports assignment (direct billing), call ahead and we will confirm before you come in.

Costs vary by procedure. Before any work starts, Bay Dental gives you a clear estimate of what you are looking at. Nothing happens without your agreement. Bay Dental uses the current BCDA fee guide (the BC Dental Association’s standard pricing reference).

The practice does not recommend treatment you do not need. You will not sit down for a cleaning and leave with a quote for procedures you did not come in for. Bay Dental’s approach is to do what is necessary, explain why, and keep costs as manageable as possible for each patient’s situation. We will only do treatment you have given consent for.

If you have questions about cost before booking, call the front desk and ask.

Bay Dental has been open since 1986. Dr. Maycher graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Manitoba, taught dentistry there for eight years, and served as a long-time member of the Dentistry Ethics Committee in Manitoba. He has also been a part-time clinical instructor at the UBC Faculty of Dentistry and the University of Manitoba.

Dr. Tu holds a Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Sydney, where he was awarded the Dr. John Mayne Prize for proficiency in Endodontics. He speaks Vietnamese and Cantonese and has a particular interest in cosmetic dentistry, endodontics, and oral surgery.

The practice philosophy is straightforward: do what the patient needs and wants, nothing more. Costs are discussed before any work starts, and patients are never pushed toward treatment they did not come in for.

Yes. Bay Dental sees patients of all ages. A lot of dental offices in Vancouver do not take young children, but Bay Dental does. If a child’s case is complex enough to need a specialist, the team will be upfront about it and help with the referral. For most children, care is handled in-house.

Bay Dental is dedicated to treating inflammatory gum disease at a high level. Periodontics covers the health and reduction of inflammation of the supporting structures of the teeth, including the gums and bone. Left untreated, gum disease spreads and causes lasting damage to both tissue and bone, and predisposes to inflammatory conditions such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

The practice offers both periodontal surgery and non-surgical periodontal therapy. Each patient is treated individually with a personalized treatment plan rather than a one-size approach. The goal is to stop the progression of disease and inflammation.

If you have been diagnosed with gum disease, or are noticing symptoms like bleeding gums, persistent bad breath, sensitivity, or gum recession, ask about the program when you book.

Bay Dental has been open since 1986, making 2026 the practice’s 40th year. Dr. Maycher founded the practice and has been practicing dentistry in Vancouver for the full four decades. In that time the practice has seen over 12,000 patients.

Patient Testimonials

“Best in town in my opinion! I've been a patient at Bay Dental for 8 years now, I moved a few times but this is definitely still my go-to place for any dental and naturopathic care services. They also just moved into a new office with very nice city views. They've helped me with everything from minor skin issues and nasal congestion to all the dental work, including regular cleaning to orthodontics. The doctors/hygienists and admin staff here are very friendly and caring. Definitely recommend!”
– XJ M.
“I was initially referred here for teeth whitening. Dr. Tu explained the process clearly, including what results to realistically expect. The result was more effective than any salon whitening treatments I’ve tried before. The cost was higher upfront, but the results reflected that. I’ve continued going here for general checkups and hygiene appointments over the past year. The team has been professional and straightforward, and overall it’s been a positive experience!”
